The Wild, Wild Web!

Lefthanders' Day

August 13th of each year is International Lefthanders' Day. It was begun in 1976 by the fellow who started Lefthanders' International. I believe he chose the date because there were no other holidays around it much, and it was his own birthday - which are perfectly good reasons.
I celebrate the day by making buttons telling of the holiday, and giving them away to lefthanders wherever I find them. Lefthanders' International publishes a magazine - Lefthander - and maintains a catalog of lefthanded items for sale. You can reach them at:

There is a news group for lefthanders at alt.lefthanders. Check it out.

Here also are a few examples of some of the World Wide Web resources available for Lefthanders:

The Wild, Wild Web! - Tales of Wonderment & Weirdness

The Last Page - http://www.shibumi.org/eoti.htm
It is what it claims to be. Where it all ends. There is nowhere else to go after that.

Funny Times - http://www.funnytimes.com/
It's a monthly newspaper reprinting some of the funniest political and other cartoons, humor articles and columns, and sometimes excerpts from humor books. Lots of recognizable names like Dave Barry, Dr. Science, and Zippy the Pinhead.

The Capitol Steps - http://www.capsteps.com/
Some people who actually work in Washington AC/DC, and also write and perform topical political songs about our times.
And their web site is full of those songs in a variety of sound formats so you are sure to find one that works for you.

The Onion - http://www.theonion.com/
The Onion is the best satire newspaper in the country. Don't take my word for it; what do I know?  Just take a look and see for yourself.

Nellie and the Drummers - http://www.winternet.com/~rwaller/nellie/
A new concept in pop music. All the music is generated by MIDI software on a Macintosh. All the vocals are generated by Mac speech software and added to the music. It's great pop - WAY better than Josie and the Pussycats, and it's totally untouched by human hands. Then there are music videos in the works, too. Take a listen; MP3s available. The creator of it all, Reed Waller, is very talented.

Badge-A-Minit - http://www.badgeaminit.com/
America's Foremost Manufacturer of Button and Badge making equipment. Buttons Parts, Button Supplies, Button Making Machines and Supplies.

Great Lakes - Links to sites dealing with some aspects of them.

Great Lakes Resource Network - http://www.great-lakes.net/
Especially look for the pages of links to things relating to the Great Lakes.

Islands of the Great Lakes - http://rdserv1.rd.msu.edu/islands/igrlkis.htm
Includes links to sites about individual islands, organized by lake, and has links to lighthouse web sites as well.

Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association - http://gllkakeepers.virtualave.net/index.html
Pictures and info, and it's linked to the lighthouse Web sites all around the world, too.

Brendon Baillod's Great Lakes Shipwreck Research and Diving Warehouse - http://www.execpc.com/~bbaillod/
Sort of goes along with the Lighthouse sites above.

Current Observation for Stannard Rock, MI - http://www.nws.fsu.edu/cgi-bin/buoy.cgi?station=stdm4
A listing of the current conditions from the observation equipment at Stannard Rock, including from the buoys in the lake (though the buoys are taken out in winter, so that's not available). I'm fond of the wave height stats, myself.

Great Lakes Shipping - http://www.boatnerd.com/
Ships, vessel passage, storms, lighthouses, whatever is going on around the Great Lakes. Good pictures of ships. Very homespun. Diligently kept current, too.
And related to this is the Steamer William G. Mather Museum, about a Great Lakes steamship.
